EUROPEAN HOLIDAY

Recently returned from their European holiday Don and Viv Christie report they had a sensational holiday. Together with friend Ralph Donaldson, from Stockinbingal, they visited Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and went ona five day Danube River cruise. The weather was wonderful and they had a great trip culminating in a short stay in Hong Kong en route home.

Vivsaid the trip was a perfect way to celebrate her recent retirement from TAFE.

GREAT JOY!

What great joy for the John Malone family with the arrival of their first granddaughter. After having enjoyed nine grandsons one can only imagine the ‘surprise’ when the phone call came to ‘herald’ the arrival of Amelia Jane.

Amelia was born late last week in Whangarei, New Zealand, to very happy parents Cassie and Rodney Smith (formerly of Stockinbingal) and she is a sister for Joshua, Alexander and Benjamin.

Pam and john Malone are looking forward to their upcoming New Zealand trip and ‘heaps’ of cuddles with Amelia Jane.

CONGRATULATION TO ALL.

ISAAC’S ARRIVAL

Eric and Ruth Thorburn are thrilled with the arrival of their second grandson, Isaac Justin. Isaac was born in Melbourne to Craig and Cath Thorburn and he is a brother to Xavier (aged 2).

Alison, Danny and Claire Sellers of Brisbane are also happy to welcome their nephew/cousin into their family. CONGRATULATIONS.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS

Mrs Jean Redington from the Cootamundra Retirement Village will celebrate her birthdatommorrow. Jean is looking forward to a day filled with much ‘fun and laughter’. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEAN.

QUILT EXHIBITION

After months of preparation the Craft and Quilt Expo is happening this weekend!

Set to take place in the Cootamundra Town Hall tomorrow and Sunday from 10am to 4pm, there will be more than 200 quilts on display for all to come along and ENJOY!

Craft stalls will also be there and all proceeds from this BIG weekend will go to the Community Chest Group, the Hospital and Nursing Home Auxiliaries.

SEE YOU THERE.

JOAN’S PASSING

It is with sadness that we make mention of the passing of Mrs Joan Alcock. Joan and Ron Alcock were well known in Cootamundra when they owned and operated the Wattle Tree Motel.

They were both avid golfers at the Country Club, Ron was a member of Lions and Joan a member of the Cootamundra Evening VIEW Club.

After leaving Cootamundra to retire to Moss Vale, Joan regularly returned to Coota to visit the late Julie Pollard.

Sadly Joan lost her battle with cancer on November 1. Ron continues to live at Warrigal Care, Bundanoon, where they had taken up residence in September.

OPEN DOORS

Top lady Linda Scifleet’s Dare to Dance group in conjunction with Chris Edwards School of Dance will feature in a concert “All Fired Up” set to take place next Friday evening November 14 in the Auditorium of the Ex-Services Club. It is already a sell out BUT Linda has asked us to make mention that the Dress Rehearsal on Thursday next November 13 will have ‘OPEN DOORS’ for all to come along and see our local dancers in ‘full flight’!

EGYPTIAN ADVENTURE

Seeing the pyramids at Giza and the tombs at the Valley of the Kings were amazing highlight for Ron and Carmel Duffey (here pictured) as they journeyed through Egypt recently together with other Australian tourists. Entering some of these tombs and to still see the colourful walls and caskets was incredible for the couple.

While at Aswan the site of the world’s largest man-made lake Lake Nasser, the Egyptian president was also visiting and the degree of security afforded him was awesome!

Cruising along the Nile River and seeing how the local people live and work was thrilling, especially when they visited a relocated Nubian village. The mosques are beautifully decorated and huge, as is the Cairo Museum where they viewed King Tutankhamen’s treasures.

A stopover in Dubai where the world’s highest building stansd, a visit to Dubai Ski Centre was extraordinary and a final highlight was a four wheel drive trip over the red sand hills of the Eastern Desert to see the sunset before enjoying a feast of Egyptian food. Ron and Carmel sum up an amazing country and certainly and an ‘always to be remembered’ trip. WELCOME HOME.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
