CHRISTMAS IN JULY

The Cootamundra War Widows and Ex-servicewomen held their ‘Christmas in July’ luncheon at the Ex-services Club on Monday last. Co-ordinator of these Monthly Luncheons Mrs, Ailsa Ryan described the lunch as a social day allowing the women, who might not always be able to get out, the opportunity to socialise. Pictured are Yvonne Roberts of Stockinbingal and Beryl Goodwin both in the party spirit at the luncheon.

AND, we add ACCOLADES to Mrs Alisa Ryan for the ‘first class job’ she does in organising this Monthly Luncheon. This month’s special lunch saw over 25 ladies in attendance.

BILLY’S PASSING

It is with sadness that we make mention of the passing of former Cootamundra gentleman Billy Cook. Billy passed away peacefully at his Mullumbimby home this week and our deepest sympathy goes to his lovely wife Hazel and family at this sad time. His sister Patti Roberts, of Ursula Street, informed us of his passing.

Many will remember Billy who lived on Boundary Road and worked at the Cootamundra Post Office. Born and reared here his request was to be buried in Cootamundra and his funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.

INDIAN CUISINE

Now how interesting will this ‘outing’ be. Innovative lady Kay Weatherall of Yandilla Mustard Seed Oil will be hosting Cooking Demonstrations set to take place at the Yandilla Tea House, Wallendbeen on Saturday and Sunday July 19 and 20.

Writer and culinary creative Charmaine O’Brien will be in attendance to cook up great food with an Indian influence AND after the demonstration all in attendance will be able to enjoy this great food.

A phone call to Yandilla on 6943 2516 will ensure you a place in this fun day out. Bookings essential.

CRAFT & QUILT EXPO

Just to let you know that come November a Craft and Quilt Expo will be taking place in the Cootamundra Town Hall.

There will be at least 100 Quilts on display and all kinds of crafts plus trading tables with beautiful items all ready for Christmas gifts. This event has been held in the past and many will remember the HIGH standard of exhibits in this event.

All proceeds will go to the Cootamundra Nursing Home and the raffle proceeds to the Hospital Auxiliary.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Just delighted to be making mention of the birthday of Mrs Elma Curry a resident of the Cootamundra Nursing Home. Elma celebrated her birthday on Wednesday last July 9.

MONTHLY MARKETS

The Cootamundra Monthly Markets will take place this Sunday at Fisher Park commencing at 9am. There will be a number of stalls there selling a wide range of goodies plus a barbecue, tea coffee and drinks will also be available.

These Monthly Markets are conducted by the Auxiliary of the Cootamundra Retirement Village.

AND in finishing I must comment on the presence here in town of international visitors from France and Aruba - they are just the nicest people, sooo enthusiastic about learning much of Australian life - I just loved dining with them on Wednesday night and learning of their culture.

In Young the town is ABUZZ with excitement at having Samoans, Canadians and young people from Papua New Guinea. Meanwhile Fr Greg Beath, of Boorowa, has ‘heaps’ of interesting outings lined up for the 125 youngsters and clergy there from Ireland.

An interesting story, the multicultural youth group photographed in Wednesday’s paper who were staying in West Wyalong this week, spent last Monday out in the village of Weethalle helping the locals restore their village church (ie painting, scrubbing and restoring the church pews).
