Blood bank on wheels

18/04/2008 6:57:00 AM
RED Cross Blood Bank staff, volunteers and donors enjoyed the comfort and added space of the new and impressive donormobile which rolled into Cootamundra for the first time on Wednesday.

In the past, when the Blood Bank staff arrived in town, they would be racing the clock trying to unload all the required equipment before the first donors arrive, but on Wednesday when the Herald

visited the donormobile, the staff and

volunteers were relaxed and enjoying a cuppa.

Donormobile Unit Nursing Manager Neil Wright said since the inception of the donormobile his staff finish their working days feeling far more refreshed.

“The unit is handy and easy to work out of, and allows the collection of life saving blood from within a safe standard

environment,” Mr Wright said.

More than 30 donors took advantage of the new unit on Wednesday.

The self-contained blood collection unit boasts two interview rooms, four automatic lifting donor chairs and a

waiting and refreshments area.

With the inception of the donormobile it allows for flexibility and is able to visit Cootamundra once a month for two

consecutive days.
