Olympics in the backyard

18/07/2008 9:17:00 AM
IMAGINE if you will the opportunity to watch some of the greatest athletes in the world, strutting their stuff in your own backyard.

For two lucky Australian ex-pats, Georgina and Oscar Sheridan (pictured), the grandchildren of well-known local couple Hugh and Helen Hamilton, that’s just what it will be like come August. The pair have lived in Beijing with their parents Fiona and Michael for the past three years and are looking forward to the Olympic experience of a lifetime.

Both keen sports enthusiasts, Georgina and Oscar are counting the days to the swimming and athletics events to which they have secured tickets.

According to Georgina and Oscar, Beijing has been elaborately decorated with the Olympic mascots Bei Bei, Jing Jing, Huan Huan, Ying Ying, and Ni Ni, which in English translates to Beijing Welcomes You.

Georgina and Oscar have been in Cootamundra visiting their grandparents for almost three weeks and will head home to Beijing this weekend.

During their visit to Cootamundra both Georgina and Oscar got into the Olympic spirit early taking part in the Olympic day held at the library on Wednesday.
