THREE days of solid rainfall has left Cootamundra farmers sporting huge grins, with the probability of a good harvest looking better and better in the region.
The Cootamundra area in particular recorded good falls, while further south and west, rain gauges recorded significantly less than Coota’s 33.4mm
The three days, Sunday through Tuesday, saw Cootamundra record its highest rainfall in seven months.
Many residents awoke Monday morning to the sounds of heavy rain on the roof, music not heard in the south west for too long.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the rain this week has placed Cootamundra in front of the rest of NSW for the most rainfall recorded in the 48 hours to 9am Tuesday morning.
Stockinbingal farmer John Fisher of “Crana” said the rain could not have come at a more perfect time for regional farmers.
“The rain is just wonderful and is perfect timing for our winter crops, which were only just sown,” Mr Fisher said.
“There will be a lot of happy people out there this week,” Mr Fisher added.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected in the Southwest Slopes for the rest of this week.
Young received 14.4mm of rain on Monday and Tuesday, Wagga received 27.2mm of rain over the two days, Wallendbeen 20mm, Temora recorded 19.2mm, on Monday Stockinbingal recorded 25mm. Between 20 and 25mm of rain was recorded at Illabo.
